Based on the book Don’t Let Pigeon Drive The Bus! by Mo Willems; Published by Hyperion Books for Children; Script by Mo Willems and Mr. Warburton; Lyrics by Mo Willems; Music by Deborah Wicks La Puma; Dramaturgy by Megan Alrutz. The play was first commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and was first produced at the Kennedy Center during the 2019 - 2020 season.

When Pigeon arrives at the bus stop he doesn’t realize he’s about to embark on one of his biggest quests; to drive the bus. With all the passengers and the bus driver against him, will he finally achieve his (brand new) dream? With a hilariously funny script written by Mo Willems, the creator of the #1 New York Times best-selling, Caldecott Honor award-winning "Pigeon" picture books, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical! is a silly, laugh-out-loud musical and even more fun than staying up late and having a hot dog party!

Megan Collins

Co-Director
Megan is thrilled to be working on STC’s production of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical!! Megan proudly serves as Stages Theatre Company’s Education Director, leading on-site classes and workshops, off-site partner programs, community outreach partnerships, and in-school residencies. While this is Megan’s fifth season on staff at STC, Megan’s theatrical career began onstage at Stages Theatre Company at the age of 12. In addition to her time at STC, she has worked with Seattle Children’s Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre Company, Children’s Theatre Company, and Adventure Stage Chicago.

JC Lippold

Music Director
JC Lippold is excited to get back on the Stages Theatre Company bus for his 15th production! JC's first production with Stages was Bridge to Terabithia in 2011 and last season worked on Matilda Jr., Dragons Love Tacos, and Spookley the Square Pumpkin. Theatre kids rock!

Laura "Baller" Mahler

Choreographer
Laura "Baller" Mahler (She/her/hers) is so excited to be back with Stages Theatre since her last gig choreographing Disney's Descendents: The Musical and skating onstage as Ursula in Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. She also worked with Stages Theatre as an education associate at The FAIR school in Crystal. Shoutout Dragons! Currently, she runs the middle school theatre programming at Global Arts Plus in St. Paul.  When she is not in a classroom or rehearsal room, she is onstage using her BFA in Acting from DePaul, roller skating with the North Star Roller Derby League, or cheering on fans as an Ushertainer with the Saint Paul Saints!

Mo Willems

Author, Lyricist & Playwright
Mo Willems is an author, illustrator, animator, and playwright. He was the inaugural Kennedy Center Education Artist-in-Residence (2019-2022), and he continues to collaborate in creating fun new stuff involving classical music, opera, comedy concerts, dance, painting and digital works with the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington National Opera, Ben Folds, Yo-Yo Ma, and others.

Deborah Wicks La Puma

Composer
A composer, music director and orchestrator, Deborah Wicks La Puma is one of the most produced Theatre for Young Audiences artists working today. Some of her most popular musicals include ELLA ENCHANTED (based on the book by Gail Carson Levine), OLIVERIO: A BRAZILIAN TWIST, and EINSTEIN IS A DUMMY with playwright Karen Zacarías, and the off-broadway hit SHE PERSISTED (based on the book by Chelsea Clinton) with playwright Adam Tobin.

Megan Alrutz

Dramaturgy
Dr. Megan Alrutz is full professor and Associate Chair for the Department of Theatre and Dance, where she teaches in the Drama and Theatre for Youth and Communities / UTeach Theatre programs. Her research and practice focus on creating new and interdisciplinary performance for stage and screen, storytelling (live and digital) and drama-based pedagogy. She teaches courses in applied theatre, theatre for youth and theatre for the very young, new play dramaturgy, devising and movement-based performance and research methods.
