Take flight and discover just how big Señorita Mariposa’s mundo maravilloso is as we follow the monarch butterfly's journey from Canada to Mexico on this beautiful English and Spanish adventure across the continent. Each year the butterfly takes an epic adventure ‘over mountains capped with snow, to the deserts down below’ to settle in the forests of their ancestors, but it’s the people they meet on their way that make this journey so special. ¡A volar!

All ticket holders of the Sunday September 29, 1pm Performance are invited to attend a pre-show book signing with MISTER G, aka - Ben Gundersheimer, the author of SEÑORITA MARIPOSA. Arrive before the show to have your copy of SEÑORITA MARIPOSA autographed. Books will be available for purchase at the box office, while supplies last.
About Ben Gundersheimer (known onstage as MISTER G) is a Latin GRAMMY Award-winning artist, author and educator. Hailed as “a bilingual rock star” by The Washington Post, he tours internationally at venues such as Lollapallooza, Austin City Limits and the National Theatre. As a musician, MISTER G has released 14 albums of original, multicultural music for children and families. Penguin Random House has published four of Ben's picture books, all of which are based on his songs. Now in its 16th hardcover printing, Señorita Mariposa is used widely in classrooms, StoryWalks, and is a best seller at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Whether writing or performing in English, Spanish or Hebrew, Ben uses songs and stories as a unifying tool to build bridges between cultures and people.

Nora Montañez Patterson

Director
Nora Montañez is an Afro-descendent Indigenous Peruvian playwright,
director, actor, and educator based in Mni Sota Makoce, on the ancestral
lands of the Dakota and Anishinaabe. She was raised in Paterson, NJ and
holds a BFA from Florida Atlantic University. In Minneapolis, Nora has
performed at Theatre Latte Da, Pillsbury House Theatre, Children’s Theatre
Company, The Guthrie Theater, Theatre Mu and Mixed Blood to name a
few. Nora has directed various productions for Minneapolis Public School’s,
Saint Paul for the Conservatory Performing Artists, Chicago Avenue Project
with Pillsbury House Theatre’s, Project Opera with Minnesota Opera and
Exposed Brick Theater. She is the creator of the pedagogy Decolonizing
the Artists which has been facilitated at the Ordway Center for Performing
Arts, where she was a part of the founding faculty for the Greenroom
fellowship, Center for the Performing Artists and Exposed Brick Theater.
Currently, Nora is a Minneapolis Public School teacher, a Project Manager
with Upstream Arts and the Founder/Executive Director of ALMA (Alliance
of Latine Minnesota Artists). Nora’s work has been recognized as a 2018
Next Step Grant recipient, a 20/21 Many Voices Mentee at the Playwrights
Center, a 21/22 Creative Support Grant recipient, the 21/22 Artist-in-
Residence with the Department of Chicano and Latino Studies at the
University of Minnesota and a Avanzando Liderazgo Fellow with
LatinoLead. Nora’s extensive work has been honored in the Yo. Un Latino
en Minnesota by MLatino Media

Nuriel Abdenur

Music Director
Nuriel Abdenur is an Argentine-American vocalist, conductor, educator, music minister and director. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.M. in Vocal Performance and continued her studies at the Manhattan School of Music to earn her Master’s degree in the same field. Nuriel believes that if you can talk, then you can sing and works to encourage every voice. This is Nuriel's first production with Stages Theater Company, and she is thrilled to collaborate in bringing this new work to life. 

Anat Shinar

Choreographer
Anat Shinar (hear it) is a Twin Cities-based dancer, choreographer, visual artist, multidisciplinary performance artist, educator, curator, and Artistic Director of Young Dance. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BFA in Dance and a BA in Visual Arts. She completed her Master's degree in Arts and Cultural Leadership, also at UMN. Her works have been presented nationwide, including at the Walker Art Center, MN Museum of American Art, and the Center for Performance Research. Anat believes that movement allows people of all ages to connect to themselves and those around them and that dance develops our skills to effectively collaborate, adapt, and communicate. As a choreographer and educator, Anat blends an appetite for physical challenge with a love of individual expression. She meets dancers where they are, leading them through a journey to discover more about themselves and empowering them to be active contributors in a collaborative environment. This is Anat's first production with Stages Theater Company, and she looks forward to working with such a fabulous artistic team!

Mabelle Reynoso

Playwright
Mabelle Reynoso (she/her/ella) is a multidisciplinary storyteller who has devoted her artistic career to building connections in communities through storytelling. Mabelle is a two-time winner of the California Young Playwrights contest ("Santa Does a Mitzvah"; "Dreaming Pancho Villa"). Since 2004, Mabelle has been a teaching artist for the nonprofit arts education organization Playwrights Project. Her own art is largely informed by her work with underserved and marginalized populations, including Spanish-speaking immigrants, expectant teens, foster youth, and justice-involved youth and adults. Mabelle’s recent playwriting commissions include Northwest Children's Theatre, Stages Theatre Company, Olympia Family Theatre, TuYo Theatre, Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre, and the San Diego Symphony.
